Chuckwagon Incident, 1969

Description

In November 1969, a confrontation between students, non-students, Department of Public Safety officers, and Austin police erupted in and near the Texas Union restaurant known as the Chuck Wagon. The issue was whether non-students should be allowed in the Chuck Wagon. In the scuffle, glass doors were shattered, tables were overturned, and eight persons, five of whom were students, were arrested. Later, at least 22 others were arrested and named in grand jury indictments. You can read more about it in The Rag Blog.  (The Rag was a pioneering underground newspaper published in Austin, Texas, from 1966-1977, and has been revived as a blog.  A short history is here.)
